Sally Loves Music Notecards - Twenty Fiveit is only
RIGHT

Sally still writes thank you notes.  Yes, she has figured out how to text and email, but Sally has a soft spot for putting pen to paper.

We made these note cards from vintage album covers so she’d never be without the stationery.  Of course, she sent us a thank-you card…on a Sally Loves Music notecard, ha.

Sally Loves Music Notecards (with envelopes) are available at wholesale pricing  in quantities of 2 dozen or more.  Email Sally for more information.

Or, we have a limited number available retail from one of our favorite arts organizations, The Haggus Society.

Sally Loves Music COASTERS - Eugenie Baird sings Duke Ellington…and hates
FURNITURE
RINGS

Sally’s parents, Dick & Jane, taught her to take care of her furniture so that it would last a lifetime. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that furniture rings make her pretty unhappy.

Then there is also the question of what to do with all those left over album covers when the records are scratched or broken…

What was our solution,
you ask?

TREASURES

Sally’s been known to buy a coat or dress from thrift in the wrong size, color and style JUST to rescue a set of funky, fantastic or futuristic buttons.  From pearls and rhinestones to Bakelite or leather, buttons make awesome rings, earrings and brooches.

(And after you’ve salvaged buttons, be sure to recycle the clothing into quilt scraps, pocket squares and cleaning rags.)

Beautiful!

Sally’s weight moves up and down, and a couple of her sweaters that haven’t been worn in a while have a few moth holes.  At her request, we’re going to let you think it is because she has LOST weight.

What is a girl to do?

This beautifully upcycled sweater from Jennifer V. has us inspired!  Can a sweater turned into a sweater REALLY be called upcycled?

We say…absolutely!

Fantastic Upcycled Vintage Cat Eye Glasses!…May Not Be Needed

Sally’s parents, Dick and Jane, gave her a wealth of wonderful quirks; good eyesight wasn’t one of them.  Silver lining? A lovely set of cat-eye glasses to upcycle.

Upcycled doilies make the perfect pair of thrift-store wedges gorgeous!…or her shoes!

Sally LOVES shoes and boots.  No really.  She LOVES them.  If she had the room, she’d give Imelda Marcos a run for her money.  But, if we know nothing else, we know Sally is way to thrifty to buy that many pairs of NEW shoes.

Well, we’ve found a solution for Sally…and for you.  How many times have you been in a thrift store or at a yard sale and found a pair of shoes in your size that aren’t your style or color?  Millions, we know.  Well, finally, a solution to your need to hoard collect shoes.  Buy them used in any color or style and upcycle them into a pair of one-of-a-kind beauties like these doily wedges for MAKEzine.

Upcycle a tire into a tire swing! Is it over YET?

Sally is tired of snow already.  She’s dreaming of tire swings and bright Spring days already.   Not just any tire swing, but he flat spinning kind.  And, although Sally is certain you all know that you can make a tire swing out of a tire, we just wanted to remind you of a couple of things…

One: When reusing a tire, be careful when using steel-belted tires.  If they are well worn, metal slivers can make for a sore rear end.

Two: Don’t forget to drill drainage holes because when it finally DOES get warm again, the skeeters (mosquitos) will call your new swing home after the first rain if you give ’em a chance.

Sally loves an upcycled record bowl as much as the next cowgirl, but get a load of this FABULOUS fascinator:

“Adorable cocktail hat made from a recycled vinyl 45RPM record, with the edge carefully heat-sculpted into frills. As these are all unique, the actual record used differs from the one pictured. You can choose from various artists including The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Manfred Mann, and label colours including black, red, teal and indigo.” –from Polyvore

It is sold out, but we’re up for trying to make one ourselves…

I’m not going to say that Sally drinks A LOT, but let’s just say …she could be assured a lush garden, no pun intended, using this next upcycled wine bottle idea.

Wouldn’t it be nice to go away for the weekend without worrying about returning to dead herbs or flowers?

This idea is a homemade continuous watering system like the glass watering globes you can buy in many home-improvement stores…but upcycled!

…Neither is Sally.

We see LOTS of DIY upcycling projects that take some serious skills to become useable pieces of real furniture.  But take a look at this great Legion Pallet Table from Made.  I’m thinking we can make a reasonable facsimile of this ourselves without major woodworking skills.

No, not again…

Let’s face it.  Sally isn’t likely to read A Christmas Carol again.  By now we all know Dickens was paid by the word, but that doesn’t excuse the stations that play it 6x a day during the holiday season.  That doesn’t excuse the directors that make a new bad version of it every year.  But we digress.  Sally has decided to use her copy of A Christmas Carol for good…

Seed Cups from Used Egg Cups!…the EGGS
or the basil?

Are you getting ready to start seeds indoor for your garden?  Upcycle your egg shells into seed starter pots.  When breaking your eggs for cooking, try to break them close to the top.  Be sure to use a safety pin to gently make  2-3 well-spaced holes in the bottom for drainage before filling with potting soil.  Once they are large enough to transfer to your garden, don’t forget our upcycled garden marker post for another great idea!

If you save the egg carton, you’ll have the perfect container to keep your little egg starters upright.

LOVE this idea!

Garden Markers from Domestic Simplicity!SILVER
not gold

Over the years, Sally has been through a lot of sets of flatware–some better than others.  Finally, Domestic Simplicity has come up with a way to upcycle all those mismatched spoons…

Garden markers!

We’ve seen key rings and necklaces from silver and silverplate flatware treasures.  But, garden markers are a refreshing way to make use of even the most ordinary of flatware left over from your day to day use.  And, I can’t see why it wouldn’t work for table knives too.  Just in time for Spring…

Vintage suitcases for UpCycle Sally displays!FIVE
for the ROAD

Sally has a new retail space opening February 1st.  Our project today was to find vintage suitcase to transform into display cases for the walls along with at least one table top display.  The wall hanging cases will feature LED lighting for Steel Songbird jewelry while the table top display will house a small selection of Sally’s favorite notebooks.  We found some beauties…

For an average of $3 each, we purchased 5 vintage suitcases…

Samsonite and 2 American Tourister (pictured left).  Our goal was to buy fairly neutral colors to blend in to the existing decor of the space, but to have vintage gold, green or blue interiors that complemented Sally’s brand.  Mission accomplished.  3 of the 5 cases to the left have MATCHING harvest gold polka dot interiors.  Yippee!

Stay tuned for before and after pictures of the display cases.

We’ll have the a  table top version finished by Tuesday!
The hanging displays will come later.

RUBBER meets
RUBBER

Sally loves to wear white, and she is frustrated by the reuse of tires due to the skid marks on her Sunday best.  Belts and furniture and bracelets often leave a tale tell trail in their wake, and then Sally has to break out the baking soda and toothbrush.

Finally, upcycled tires work perfectly in a bicycle stand.  Fantastic

Now we just need a
Bicycle built for Two!
